Yes. Start a session and lock the screen; measurement continues. If iOS interrupts capture for any reason, the session is flagged as incomplete both in the app and in the exported report, so a gap is never presented as silence.
No. NoiseCase reads how loud the microphone signal is, several times a second, and discards the signal itself. No audio file is written at any point. There is nothing to play back, and nothing anyone can extract from the app.
Phone microphones report relative levels, not true sound pressure, and two handsets in the same room can differ by 15 dB. The six-second measurement in a quiet room anchors your phone's readings so the numbers mean something. You can re-run it from Settings at any time.
Re-run the calibration in a genuinely quiet room — no television, no fan, no air conditioning. As a sanity check afterwards: a quiet room should read roughly 30–40, a conversation at arm's length around 60, and a vacuum cleaner a few feet away around 75.
A sustained event stayed above your threshold for three seconds or longer — music, shouting, a running appliance. A brief peak was shorter: a slam, an impact, a single shout. They are counted separately because a night of forty door slams and a night of continuous bass are different complaints, and folding them together invites the objection that you are logging ordinary household noise.
Each session measures its own quiet level — the level exceeded 90% of the time, which is the room with the offending noise removed. Every event is then reported as how far it climbed above that. This is the figure worth relying on, because it does not depend on calibration: if the calibration is off, the peak and the background shift together and the difference between them does not change.
A single export is spent the moment you buy it — the report is generated immediately and no credit is held. If a purchase went through and no report appeared, email me with the approximate time and I will sort it out.
Open a case, tap Export, and choose Restore on the purchase screen. Unlimited exports is a permanent unlock tied to your Apple ID and restores on any device signed into the same account. If Restore does not find it, email me.
That is between you, the recipient, and your jurisdiction. NoiseCase is not a certified sound level meter and I make no claim about how any particular body will treat its output. What a report does contain is what the device measured: dated, timed, located, with the calibration stated on the page so a reader can weigh it themselves. If you are in a formal dispute, ask whoever is advising you what they need before you rely on it.
Delete a case from within the app, or delete the app to remove everything it stored. Nothing is held on any server, so there is nothing for me to delete on your behalf.
Useful things to include: your iPhone model, your iOS version, what you did, what happened, and what you expected instead. If it concerns a specific session, the date and roughly how long it ran helps. Do not send me a report PDF unless you want to — it contains your address.
